Although not explicitly stated, the wax referred to in this ad is likely beeswax. The hexagons surrounding the text suggest this, as well as a 1985 ad from Koster Keunen Inc. that also refers to wax (specifically, beeswax). 

What makes this ad different from the 1985 one is that the qualities of wax aren’t discussed here. However, different types of wax are advertised as available, which gives manufacturers more to work with. This is likely the selling point.
