Effectiveness is primarly promoted here. These autolyzed yeast extracts can be used in many foods and are available in several varieties. In this ad, autolyzed yeast extracts are described as flavor potentiators and are all soluble in water, which is a detail not described in the previous FIDCO ad describing low sodium autolyzed yeast extracts. Most interestingly, these autolyzed yeast extracts can be used with hydrolysates and Spectra savory flavors. Not only was a previous ad promoting Spectra savory flavors in this same journal, but there is now evidence that this product can be used with those flavors.

What’s most perplexing is that this autolyzed yeast extract ad was printed later than the low sodium autolyzed yeast extract ad. Perhaps while FIDCO was trying to follow the low sodium trend of the time, it was still promoting the version that wasn’t low sodium. It is possible some consumers still preferred the regular (i.e. not low sodium) version, whether for taste or familiarity reasons.
