[alt-text]
Hand-drawn sketch of Sherlock Holmes holding a pile of over-sized french fries. His proportions are exaggerated, with extremely large hands and feet on a normal sized head and torso. The bottom image is a less stylized picture of Sherlock Holmes smoking a pipe. He is holding a “French Fry Inspection Kit.”
[additional notes]
The use of investigation and inspection imagery in these food processing agents advertisement is common. It frequently ties into the element of quality inspection in regards to the product. Additionally, the stylized, hand-drawn, art-style is common in the advertisements I’ve looked at for the 1970’s time period, especially in Food Technologies.
