The Greeks had a word for it.
The violet, or “ion” as the Greeks called it, has a fragrance that inspired writer like Keats, Browning, Tennyson and Shakespeare to write beautiful lines about its delightful scent.
That someone would someday capture the essence of the violet synthetically would probably have been unthinkable to them. Yet, today, this is what Union Camp is doing with ionones, a fragrance ingredient with naturally floral aroma.
Synthesizing ionones is an exacting technology, the kind for which Union Camp’s Terpene and Aromatics Division is noted. It’s only logical, therefore, that to produce the finest line of ionones available. That’s why we built a new ionones plant in Jacksonville, Florida.
So, if you’re looking for the distinctive nuance of the violet, meticulously made to meet your requirements, write or call for technical data and samples of Union Camp’s new ionones.

[additional notes]
One thing that stood out to me about this advertisment is that it referenced ancient Greek society as well as literature like Shakespeare. Usually these types of advertisments are focused on the future and promoting new technology so it was interesting to see references to the past. Another pattern that this advertisment represents is the idea that technology and humans can capture the “essence” of nature.
