Onion Lovers Riot in Bermuda
The image consists of what looks like a courtroom filled with a bunch of protestors with signs, one saying “Onion Lovers Go Home”.
Harsh Language and fisticuffs marred the Annual Convention of the usually harmonious Onion Lovers League International. A serious schism was narrowly averted after radicals within the association moved to admit garlic lovers to membership. The league has always dedicated itself to the advancement of the best in Onion as exemplified by Gentry Pre-Pared Onion. Those horrified purists holding this opinionated viewpoint threatened to bolt the convention, led by an angry Sir Fitzhugh Underbrush.
“Let down the bars? Never!” screamed Underbush. “First it will be garlic lovers, then bell pepper lovers, then green onion lovers. We must remember that Gentry processes all of these Pre-Pared products – and many more– in their most flavorful, economical, and convenient dehydrated form. To admit then would be to belittle our most sublime and noble Pre-Pared Onion!”
Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and Sergeant-at-Arms Col. Kimberly Kettle restored order in the unruly mob. It was pointed out that the Shepherd’s Pie served at the convention luncheon was seasoned by both Pre-Pared Garlic and Pre-Pared Onion, as well as other cost saving dehydrated seasonings. Finally, a reasonable compromise was thrashed out in which lovers of garlic, carrots, paprika, and other Pre-Pared products might be admitted to the League– provided they swear undying allegiance to the noble Onion as first and foremost among seasonings.
If you wish to receive a sample of Pre-Pared Garlic, write to the address below; please mention your firm name and position. You will also receive a copy of the OLLI Shepherd’s Pie recipe and a membership card in the Onion Lovers League International.
This advertisement stood out to me because of how unique and creative this company advertised their seasoning product. Seasonings are also one of those products that I tend to forget are techinically porcessed. Something I also noticed is that in the advertisement’s image it looks like there are Native Americans depicted in the crowd. I am curious as to why the company choose to include indigenous people in this advertisment. Is there a connection to the American Indian Movement (AIM) that was founded in 1968?
