As per the New York Times, Gane’s Chemical Works “made and sold medicinal chemicals, including sulphanilamide, and intermediaries for penicillin and the sulpha drugs”. Set up in 1927, Gane’s was the first US subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company Siegfried & Dürselen, which was founded in 1873. The parent company became a global CDMO and is still functioning today.
